Sunil Mittal, chairman of telecom service provider Bharti Airtel, says that the rates of mobile services are not rational right now. He said that it is difficult to survive in the market at the current rates, hence a hike in rates is inevitable. He said the market conditions would be looked into before taking any decision in this regard. Mittal said these things in an interview to PTI-Bhasha.
Mittal said, “The current rates are not sustainable, but Airtel cannot take its own initiative without the market or regulatory action being taken. The industry will need to raise rates at some point in time. We have to look at the market conditions while doing this. Mittal was asked whether the time seems inevitable to increase the rates of telecom services in the Indian market and whether Airtel will take the initiative or wait for the competitors to take steps in this direction.
